Full-Contact Jujitsu / Traditional Kumite.

Zefff, from the forum posted this video:

Its a great full contact jujitsu video that has been circulating the net for many years. Zefff brings up the point that although this looks very similar to MMA, the actual principles and philosophy behind it are different.

There are growing numbers of people who play MMA too which isnt so bad as it is a sport anyway but I am asking if the focus of intent should shift back to what it used to be for Kumite, San Da and Vale Tudo. Nobody ever equates losing to death anymore. I just wonder if it is a bad thing that we are developing into a society of weak bodied, deluded fighters or is it good that our personal and petty violence is stunted? Just thinking allowed. I suppose I should remember the line between enthusiasts and professionals.

The way I see it, is that the problem is not that with MMA, but the people starting to get into MMA. They aren’t martial artists anymore. They are kids wanting to be superstar fighters. I’ll elaborate more in another post. But what seems lost lately is the respectful, humble martial artist. There are only a few left. The people entering MMA now, and amazing athletes, but don’t benefit from the years of training and discipline that the rest of us have faced. What do you think?
