Man attacked with bottle on Subway

Man attacked with bottle on Subway

Check this video out – these two guys are alone on the subway. One “punk” looking kid is walking around acting strange with a bottle in his hand. Instantly, my radar has gone up. “Why is he holding the bottle like that?”
“Where is his shirt?”
“Why does he look so nervous”
and lastly “Why did I sit down?”

Personally, sitting down would have never been an option. As far as I’m concerned that opened up the door. Look at the way he is holding the bottle, it is being held like a weapon!

The victim’s instinct must be telling him that something is off – why isn’t he listening to it? I feel bad for the dude, but people need to listen to their instinct. You know his radar is going off, but he choose to sit down, almost as a way to relax himself? Wrong move.

Standard police advice is “trust your instincts.” But too often, what they’re calling instinct is really learned thought and behavior patterns informed by racism. Would his radar have gone up if a white fella had been acting similarly and holding the bottle the same way?

I think any man, regardless of color, race, whatever who is walking around anxiously, holding a bottle like that, would set off any one’s radar. And if it didn’t then I people are ignoring their instincts.

Personally, I think in this situation the victim did “know” something was wrong, but his action was to sit down to calm himself down – possibly find a “safe” feeling. Wrong move.
