Default 33 people killed in Virginia Tech shooting

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18134671/?GT1=9246

32 people were shot & killed, & 15 wounded, by a man on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, before he used his gun on himself. A number of people have complained that the university & police authorities did not react quickly enough after being informed of the first two shootings. It's easy to see 'mistakes' in hindsight. In situations like this, police have to think on their feet & they can only go with the information they can gather as they go along. That said, I'm not trying to minimize this matter. It's a horrifying thing to happen & my sympathy goes out to the bereaved families & the injured & I hope the injured make quick & full recoveries.

Blacksburgh, VA is a pretty small, calm college town. VA Tech is a well respected institution, reknowned for its engineering school. Several students from my area make the trek across the border to attend school there. The campus is large and open, and this is litteraly one of the last places that you would think something like this would happen, but I guess that's what is always said. This is just too shocking for words. Some 'internet friends' on another board where we talk college sports who go to VA Tech said that there were bomb threats there last week......

Crikey, what the heck would anyone hope to attain from that??? Unless, they really did just want to cause some trouble and inject some fear.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who were affected by this senseless act of cowardice and violence...

I've been hearing a lot of flack about how the university didn't do this and they didn't do that. I think it's real easy for us as the public to criticize what we don't know. We need to let the police and the university do their job investigating without casting judgement or nit-picking what went wrong. Not to disregard the lives that were lost, but in my eyes they did a good job in preventing it from being worse than it already was.

Hopefully, we will all learn from this and we can work to prevent another tragedy like this from happening again...

this is indeed a sad occurance. Just another example of social issues that have not been resolved. I know americans love their 1st ammendment, but you have to look at what is happening to the country because of it.

on a side note, I find it funny how some american stations still manage to throw in Islam to the mix, even though it's totally unrelated to the sad event.

PANTA?!?!?! Where the hell have you been?!?!?!

If you're talking about the right to bare arms, that's actually the 2nd Amendment. The 1st Amendment is for freedom of speech.

I haven't heard any news reports of them discussing Islam or Muslim's. Where did you heard that???

Maybe someone can clear this up but.......why did they have email warnings? That doesn't seem very efficient. That means that people had to be logged in and checking their emails to find out. Everyone's complaining that the emails didn't go out for 2 hours but my question is... why emails? Why not something else?

I was wondering the same thing, It was probably something that they thought of as a spur of the moment. So they probably figured that students would spread the word through the RA's.
