Default Obscure/ Unknown News thread

Inspired by another member I think this might be a good idea for a thread.

Just post news articles from around the world that might never catch mainstream media attention. They can be serious issues or bizarre and humourous happenings. Heres two from me for starters:

'Pay or be fondled!'
http://www.jamaica-star.com/thestar/...ews/news1.html

'74 killed in Ethiopia'
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa....ap/index.html

Damn, I hope those weren't American dollars! If so then those kids are going to be little "insert name of any rich guy" when they grow up.

Thanks Des, I knew you would bite! Hopefully this can become an informative and lively thread!

....actually, being as it is my thread I am creating a new rule. No replies without at least one fresh news link of some kind!

I find it difficult to find newsworthy news. Most stuff that sees print is either useless information or blown way out of proportion. Often, both. A huge deal was made in the sports page today because Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn was picked 22nd overall (maybe 23rd, I didn't care THAT much) when all the analysts were saying he could be the first NFL draft pick this year. What's the story? What information did I, Joe Blow, actually gain from that article? Sports analysts can be wrong? Whoopie friggin doo. Anyways:

And news just in today....Boris Johnson has decided to stand for nomination as the official Conservative Party candidate in London's upcoming mayoral elections. Well, if anyone could give Ken Livingstone a run for his money it'd be Boris.

It was later identified as a large sheet of plastic wrapping being blown by wind.

(Speaking of wind....Boris Johnson wouldn't be the blindest bit of use as mayor, but as we'd all have a laugh a minute who'd mind?)

Thank God i'm not the only one who thinks so.

This could be a pretty neat thread. Well done, Zeff. I might be a reble for you all and break the rule though. Haven't time to do any searching at the moment...probably will later though, so, i think my rebbellion will be short lived.
