Default TIm c.- standing grappling

YouTube - Tim Cartmell Standing Grappling DVD (sample)

THis gentleman is a legit sports fighter showing and using the arts that "don't work". Chin-na, aikido, various IMA etc. Worth checking out his various vidoes available on you tube.

His students also have video up showing strong training methods to use the "arts that don't work".

Cool. Reminds me of this vid I saw the other day with the late Carlson Gracie teaching techniques that 'arent supposed to work'.

At Tim's homepage (Shen Wu) there should be a video of him throwing and mounting a National Judo champion using a Ba Gua throw. He has won his division at the Copa Pacifica something like 7 times in a row, and its a really big tourney!

Tim and interaction with the people at this and a number of other forums have greatly contributed to my love and appreciation for MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and realistic training methods.

I hope to someday wield a fraction of the throwing and Jiu Jitsu skill of Tim Cartmell. He is a true inspiration to all of us who have known that the Chinese arts have real martial value, they simply lack an abundance of people willing to test their skills.

I highly recommend Tim's Standing Grappling DVD, its a very effective and practical combination of leverage based self defense techniques from Ba Gua, Xingyiquan, Taijiquan, and Chin Na along with BJJ. The DVD covers reactions and follow-ups/Counters to the most common holds seen in street fights. Since the techniques are leverage-based they can be practiced at speed under stressful conditions to simulate a real attack and cultivate effective responses. Its quality stuff.

I still use my knowledge of Chin Na, with some good success when grappling, so this really comes to me at no surprise. Alot of guys i've rolled are shocked when they tapp because of a horrible pain in their wrists. I dont' use the finger manipulation stuff, because that's really frowned upon in BJJ.

LOL at the wrist pains! Everyone at my school is used to the threat of wrist attacks because my teacher is a monster who is constantly looking for them!
