| Question about a choke technique I breifly experienced being choked by someone with military training. I was against a wall and he put extreme pressure on either side of my adams apple, but it was forced upward, into the underside of my jaw. He either used one thumb from each hand or two fingers upward from one hand, i cant remember, but is there a name for this? | | | | Super Moderator Black Belt 5th Dan

| Hi and welcome to the forums- Sounds like you experienced a carotid or blood choke (same thing).
Basicaly he put pressure on the carotid artery to stop blood flow to your brain. Very fast and effective if done correctly.

| Sounds like you let this happen to yourself. Were you trying to see what it felt like?

| Actually i'm a writer, and this did happen to me for maybe 15 seconds.
I said some sly remark about a lousy pool shot- to a guy i'd only known for a couple days. He "sack tapped" me (slang terms for a not-so-vicious low blow) and i put him in a legal wrestling head lock (around an arm and the neck-my dad was a wrestler, he made me know all the basic moves hehe). He was much stronger than me, and like i said- in basic military training. I let go of him and he charged head-first into my stomach, we both fell into a stack of metal fold up chairs, him ontop of me. When i stood up he pushed me against the wall and began choking me in the said manner for about 15 seconds. When he let go and offered his right hand for a hand shake or something...i walked out of the room-panting for breath-wondering what the hell just happened. It was a strange experience, i'm going to write a short story about it...thanks for the help guys. | | | | Super Moderator Black Belt 5th Dan

| Hi Guarddog-
Honestly- If the guy had it on for oughly 15 seconds he was doing a REALLY shitty choke. It should take no more the 4-6 seconds once its locked in. Sounds like a jerk.

-bamboo | Hey buddy, I dont think he was doing a blood choke. He may have been using this thumbs to put alot of pressure to the adams apple. That could explain why he didn't passout.
Guarddog, did you feel more pressure/pain on the adam's apple?

| To describe the choke I was talking about. It's a "blatant" choke, where both hands are placed on the throat, however the thumbs are crossed over the adam's apple and dig into the sides of it. The thumbs are then "scissored" cause alot of pressure on the adam's apple. It's a relative easy choke to get out of, there are many ways to stop it. Some people believe that you can dislodge the adam's apple by doing this choke. SOME people.

| With that description Panta I definately agree, but with a vague description and having the wife apply it as written, i came to the blood choke conclusion.
