well i guess because most of the taekwondo gym today teaches more about getting points on a fight, what they forgot is that it can be used as a self defense.. some people say that tkd is some crappy form of martial arts but they don't know anything about it.. they dont know how hard these guys train..

TKD is definetly not a bad styles if the instructor is good. They actually have a lot of hand techniques, but most focus more on the legs, because of the olympic style of sparring.

I see the MMA trolls are out again slamming karate and TKD. lol. Don't you have anything better to do, like try and become a better person.

--Power - that should be a given in all martial arts.... but even in Karate you can practice without full power...

--The original modern TKD is not in any way related to Taekkyon. Chung Do Kwan has some Shotokan influences but no-influence from "hwarang do" or "taekkyon" - both of which, in modern terms, came after Taekwondo.

If you really did do TKD, then you know what a Poomse is. A kata is the same as Poomse.

I especially like the part where you compare the pronunciation of karate and tae kwon do.

Based on that logic, then Penjak Silat must be the best martial art in the world, where as Sambo must suck...

It sounds like you've been brainwashed by some macho karate instructor who is taking your money.

Learn to think for yourself and judge thing objectively, not subjectively. If you don't know what that means, look it up.

The biggest myth is that martial arts doesn't work in real life application but I disagree. The only difference between real life fighting and sparring sessions is gloves, mouth piece and boots. So once these things comes off who do you think is going to win the person with over 100 sparring sessions that is well conditioned or the quickly winded average joe with probly 10 fights in his life.

I don't hate TKD, I just dislike the instructors that teach it nowadays. Most have lost traditions for making money instead. I was trained differently in TKD then most McDojo students. We were trained hard, we actually punched, threw elbows, kept our hands up, and kicked like horses. More like ITF/Military style of TKD.

These days, most McDojos school teach Olympic TKD. Which is very watered down Taebo like fighting (exactly, not fighting!). Kids take these classes, think they're bada** because they have a certain rank. But get their a** handed to them in a real life fight. Because they've been taugh to score points and not actually FIGHT.

9 belt levels and 18 testings at my school. You won't get through the living hell they call class without spending a solid 3 45 minute sessions there a week! Hardly what I'd call weak.

Also are students start sparring at camo belt..which means they are well versed on th art of 1on1 battle. Just think what would happen if we didn't pull are kicks in point sparring?...think about it.

Tae Kwon Do has gotten a bad rep. I don't hate it. It is just not for me. I know a couple a guy that I highly respect as artist that are Tae Kwon Do practitioners.
