Default For UFC fans....what is so ultimate about it?

Ok first and foremost yes I am a WWE fan and have been for years, and yes I know it is scripted and the whole purpose there is to make it look as if you are trying to kill the other guy instead of trying to actually do it, and I do know what is real and what is not when it comes to the WWE ring.

Also as I former bouncer at a night club I have also had more than my fair share of real life hand to hand combat. I have also studied MMA for years going back to the principles of jeet-kun-do (that was invented by Bruce Lee in case ya didn't know, a man who as many WWE superstars also have, made most of his money by 'acting.')

Now the whole reason behind this is that I finally got to see Lesnar vs Mir. Ok if this is 'Ultimate Fighting' why did the ref stop the fight! When I was a bouncer I never had a guy step in and stop me when I pulverized a guy! It went on until he was no longer a problem. Lesnar, that fake 'rassler' was whippin' up on that former UFC, "oh its real" heavyweight champion!
I thought, well back in the Severn, Gracie, Shamrock days that these UFC fights were anything but eye gouges and biting gos affairs?

If ya want to claim to be so real why stop a fight like that unless you are going to award the bout to the aggressor in this case, Lesnar.
oh and yes I do remember your boys Shamrock and Severn, 2 of the UFC originals along with Tank Abbott also had their fair share of time in those fake professional wrestling rings!

But still stop the fight and let a guy regroup because he got blasted in the back of the head in a promotion that bills themselves as 'Ultimate Fighting'? I guess UFC is real though...in the same sense as flag football is real, nothing scripted but loaded with little bs rules to keep one from actually getting hurt...hmmmm kinda like WWE wrestling, only alot less entertaining.
ummm anyone???
ok there's an answer, I'd like to see some more....

Well, yes back in the days UFC is all out fighting. But they never grew much until they changed the rule and be recognized as a real sport. If they had stayed with the original rule, it'll remain as almost an underground sport. Not the sport that we know today. For a sport to be recognized as a real sport it has to have rules to protect the athlete.

Now as the Lesnar fight. I have to agree with you that that call about Lesnar hitting Mir in the back of the head was totally bogus. The ref shouldn't have stopped the fight for that, definitely shouldn't have given Lesnar a point deduction. Now if Lesnar hit Mir in the back of his head a second time then yea go ahead stop the fight. But that one hit he threw was on the way to the target when Mir decided to turn his head around.

Your allowed to turn your head if you want. How old is this news anyway?

MMA in all its incarnations is a sport.
The rules in UFC competition state that you cannot hit the back of the head. Why? Becasue in order to have these fights sanctioned and insured rules must be made and enforced.

If you watch the video close up Lesnar clearly hits Mir in the back of the head several times. He was in violation of the rules. Plain and simple.

These rules had to be a part of the sport. If it wasn't then there wouldn't be a UFC anymore. Rorion originally made the UFC as a means to test what style of fighting is superior. He himself said that he is disappointed in what the UFC has become, comparing it to a child that you had dreams and aspirations for but had turned from it. He said he will always wish it well but it has become something he didn't want it to become.

UFC and MMA is not a no holds barred, anything goes fighting org. It's a sport as bamboo said. Just like boxing, real wrestling and competition Judo.

As far as Brok's fight, I agree that the fight shouldn't have been stopped and points deducted. I've seen that same ref, warn someone more than once for hitting to the back of the head, while still letting the fight continue uninterrupted. Yes there were 2 hits to the back of the head consecutively but only because 1. Mir turned his head and 2. Brok was just letting them go. There was almost no way for him to realize in those split seconds he was hitting the back of the head. If I recall Mir wasn't really stunned from those n e ways. But alas that's another tangerine to go into.
It's plain as day if UFC didn't incorporate those rules then it would not have been sanctioned by anyone and it would have died. There was a great documentary about it. I believe it was on NBC.
