| Ty-Ga Karate Does anyone here study Ty-Ga or know anything about it? Theres a dojo near me and im going to check it out, but wanted to get a bit of background on it first. The website is pretty vague and doesnt really give much detail on the art itself, but seems more interested in showing off what magasine covers its founder has been on. Here it is: http://www.ty-ga.co.uk/index.htm
Also it shows 1st Dans with only 3 years training, which seems a very short amount of time to me when i compare it to my ju jitsu which takes about 10 years.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

| Isn't it a form of karate that is fought exclusively in Boston? It's spelled Tiger though. From what I hear it's wicked hahd and it's main goal is to teach you to fight in bah's. It's founder is Sully from L Street. His senior students are Whitey, Wellsie, Markie, Bobby and Jimmy. I know.....that's a pathetic shot at trying to be funny. I don't know anything about Ty-Ga Karate. Sorry to waste you're time.

| Roscoe - it's hard to say whether or not this guy's really worth learning from or not. Personally, I'd be a little hesitant to go to a school where it only took a student 3 years to acheive Dan status, but that's my personal opinion and feeling. Go check it out. Ask a LOT of questions. Don't let them bully you into coming into the class for a workout and don't walk away feeling like you didn't get all of your questions answered.
If you do go for a workout, don't let on that you've had any previous MA training. You may end up working out with some die-hard dipshit that has an ego bigger than the dojo and he/she may want to test you to see if what you know is better than what he/she knows. Better to let them think they are when you're a guest - you can always prove they're not after you join...
Dscott - it wasn't THAT pathetic - I actually grinned... !!!

| I've heard of the style but I don't know anything about it. It's a modern system, but it's been around for a while, and, I think, it originates from Scottish karate schools, but I'd have to double check that.

| One of the things that concerned me a little was the claim that he had schools worldwide... No offense to my English bretheren here, but I don't consider schools only located in England to be "worldwide". That's like saying all Freebird's resturants are worldwide when they're only located in the U.S. Now, if he does have schools outside of England, then I'd like to know how many and what country they're in. Other than that, he seems to have the credentials for who he says he is...

| For anyone who is interested, the ty ga seemed to be more sport orientated than traditional karate. And, as nbotary predicted, there were a couple of macho badass' with e-gos through the roof, so i didn't stick around to long.
If any one has any information on it id still appreciate hearing from you.
Cheers all. | | | | Senior Member Black Belt 5th Dan Join Date: Jan 1970 Posts: 2,328
