But he told Ted Wong until the day he died that "this is basic technique in JKD" and "this is how footwork should be done in JKD"... So why should Bruce lie to Ted, or why should Ted lie? Sure, Bruce never thought something that only he knew of, but he had certain JKD-techniques and methods. He has written about the way techniques and methods are in JKD, and there are home-videos and recorded speakings when he says that as well... This is what I mean, I don't think JKD is only a concept where you collect things from everywhere. And I got that point of view from what I've read and heard by Bruce himself.

when he says something like" this is how it's done in jkd",he's just saying it as a basic guideline,a reccomendation of in his opinion what to do to be as good as you can in combat.nothing more.

Jeet Kune Do is a science. Bruce himself said it was. "The most SCIENTIFIC approach to MA ever taken." It's like boxing that isnt an art but a science. Now if you take what you have learned and express yourself in any way it then becomes apart of you. Whereby making it a self expression aka an art. Painting is expressing yourself on a canves. To me, true MA is a way of physically expressing yourself. Merely plagerizing what someonelse has already accomplished is useless. Think outside the box and create, refine, and make a new defination for the word.

Why throw away others' hard and very valid work when you could absorb it and be that much better? Few people ever accomplished something by taking an entirely new path; almost every innovation stands on the shoulders of the ones before it. You don't have to be a carbon copy of your teacher, but there's no reason to think that studying an established style is bad. It's not like there's one "right" way to do things and by using the scientific method you can arrive at that way. There are a million paths up the same mountain, several mountains, and a few different ranges. Why make a new path when there are already plenty that we know work? I'm not saying cross-training is bad or anything, but JKD works best if you get to a high level in a few arts instead of attaining a basic understanding in several.
