Hello Darktim. I think because I was quite straightforward with my reply (no flowery words), it seems you took my tone as a hostile one. B4 I move on to address your retort I will let u know that I was not meaning to disrespect u at all so chill for a while bro.

Whats wrong wiv going into Tourny's?...nothing. I did not say anything was wrong wiv that. What I implied was that if u aint sure what avenue to go down maybe u should train more first. Nothing wrong wiv training more is there?

For me the most important aspect of training is the mental. When you said "jkd covers many areas, many styles" it struck me that maybe you are still grasping the JKD concepts that lie beyond the physical...maybe I am wrong.

You have been doing MA for years!...well done chap! Can I ask wot did I say that makes u think I am a ten-a-penny black belt? I am interested to hear... but seriously 4 your info I am infact a no-belt. I have never had a proper grading in my life.

Are you seriously asking me that question? If you dont understand what I mean by learning more about yourself then obviously you are a different breed of MA to me. I am a scientific type.

anyway enough with kids. any more ideas as i "want to box up some dudes" please!
I guess I will have to live with this new look.

if you aint gonna box in your tourny's how are you gonna win?...manly tapouts?

thanks for the apology

yes i did take your tone as rude. and did'nt aprecate the way you put down the way i wanted to aproach the topic of tournaments. ive been doing tis for years i even have a black belt in judo, but with at aside. im no longer interested in grades or belts (one of te reasons i like jkd) as i am now interested in reaching those goals and pefecting my martial skills.

ive not competed for a while now and i like to test my skills. ense the reason for open tournaments. i like all aspects, grappling and striking an think i sould testtem individually before goig into an mma tournament. well thats te idea. i train for self defense and always ave done.

i didnt like te view that i needed to look at myself better. sorry zefff but that is rude.
anyway thanks for te apology

and cheers fightaurthority.com for the info will check it out.

T

over everything ive done jkd suits me more as i like to be an all round or well rounded martial artist. i was cross training before i started up jkd.

oh i box alright!

Darktim mate why are we at odds here? Im confused...

internet chat is a funny old game and confusion always is abound. I appreciate you reading my input but I think you have gotten the wrong end of the stick.

I wasnt apologising for anything. I was letting you know that it was not my intent to be rude. I still stand by what I said in essence. If you are a veteran MA then thats great and I was not questioning your abilities at all. I just felt that from what you had written you appeared to have a segregated view of the different areas of your training as opposed to a unified "totalitarian" view...and I also said 'maybe I am wrong'. So no big deals, its just what I honestly thought whilst reading your posts.

I wasnt putting you or your approach down. Do whatever pleases you mate. Its your life to live.

Fair enuff you dont like another man telling you that you need to look at your self, I will shut my mouth, but then please tell me how you train and why you train if not to chisle away at whats in your heart and head as well as your technique? WE ALL MUST EXAMINE OURSELVES CONTINUALLY TO AVOID SICKNESS. I come on here to use this forum as another tool for self assessment. Its great that you take issue with my statements cos even this allows me to observe and reavaluate my own state of being. Thankyou.

Now back onto the topic of tournaments...is no-one else at your gym invoved with any scene? If you are the first have you thought about getting together with other members and/or instructors to generate a combined assault?

DARKTIM check out Karl Tanswell of the SBG in Manchester. He is an excellent, excellent coach and will get you all the MMA fights you want. Also if your try the forums on www.cagewarriors.com and ask Dougie about competeing. He is the promoter for Cagewarriors and great guy who i'm sure will help you get started in MMA or atleast point you in the right direction.

There are loads of events held in England. A lot of amateur MMA, semi-pro MMA, Pro MMA, subbmission wrestling. You name it England has it. If you look at the sources fightauthority and I provided you will definately be one step closer.

On a side note. Rick Young a JKD coach in Edinburgh under Dan Inosanto won gold in his weight class at the BJJ Pan Ams and bronze in the absolute weight class. Just goes to show, Scotlands catchin up with ya'll.

EDIT: Karls website from where you can get in touch with him. http://www.karltanswell.com/

You could enter the IKF Amatuer North American Championship Tournament in Orlando on August 13-15. It is open to anyone, and you can enter as Muay Thai, International Rules, or Full Contact. You can check it out on their website. Just punch in IKF on a search.

1) Read the little box under Darktim's name that says "location". Manchester, UK. I doubt he's going to fly half-way across the globe for an amateur tourney.

2) Please stop bringing up dead threads.

Please stop bringing up dead threads? I believe this is the first time I have done it, but don't worry I'll make sure and never do this ever again.
