i was in a couple tournaments about 6 years ago....when i was takin Bac Fu Do kung fu w/o JKD......i was DQ'd from both for throwing in one and illegal hit in the other..............so MMA tournys are ok but i think there an individual choice didnt work out for me but you may be different never know till you try

cheers

ill have a look at that site. was thinking earlier today of going in for some mma tournaments in the summer time but i think i would like to try kick boxing/striking ones and grappling ones before that. get back into competing

shame i cant fly over to te us now. it seems the mma scene is really taking off . in the uk its here but its not well published at all. you have to move in the martial arts world. vale tudo and things like that.

what do you all think? any more advise?

thanks

DQ'd for using a throw in an mma competition? Why do I have trouble believing that?

Whats wrong wiv being disqualified for a bad throw? Now you know it works! I would be chuffed if i was disqualified for bad behavior...well to a degree.

Also Darktim - Why do u want to enter tournaments??? if you have learnt that JKD is many styles IMHO i think u should stick with it and learn a bit more about yourself before thiking of boxing up some other dudes. Who cares if MMA nights arent well publiscised in UK?! if u are just starting out in it u have summat to prove to yourself or testing is what should be on your mind, NOT the limelight. just my 2p

well you can put your 2p back in your purse.

you haven't got the first clue what im talking about. and whats wrong with going into tournaments? nothing wrong with competing. ive been doing martials arts now for years. and every now and then like a test. so whats wrong with that? are you one of those people who are a black belt but have never been in a real fight in your life? probably are with what you said. your ten a penny!

what the hell is learn jkd and learn more bout myself?

sorry but i think you should think before you speak. and all you said has done you no favors at all. just made your self look stupid.

anyway enough with kids. any more ideas as i "want to box up some dudes" please!

DARKTIM,

Give this a shot:
http://sfuk.tripod.com/sfukmainframe.html
Click on EVENTS

They are a good reputable source of information for the UK MMA and Grappling scene. I know that MMA is getting much more popular in the UK. There are plenty of amatuer fights in the States, and I'm sure there has to be some in the UK as well. I think Manchester is a popular area, so I don't think you would have trouble finding one.

As for competing, find an event, and call the promoter and tell them you want to fight. They'll ask your stats, and try to match you up with a similar competitor. You'll have to go through a sports physical, a tox screen, and blood test. (at least they do here). After that, train your freakin' heart out!

Good luck!
