Well first off you must work on your mobility to the point that you are the best you can be at it and definetely aim to be the best in your school at the basics of it that are taught in your art.
but yes if its difficult to attach yourself to an opponent who has the measure of your mobility you need to employ deception. Not just feints and progressive attacks and stuff but changes of tempo and rthym, advancing and retreating at angles, bobbing and weaving and slipping of his stop hits and other defences.
Force your game and draw the responses you want from him to allow you to keep one step ahead of him. If you can make your opponents react to your stimulae exactly how you want, then you will be controlling him with your game regardless of his superior attributes....but its easier said than done.
