Default re: Should headguards be used in amateur boxing?

zefff

- they are only used in amateur/olympic competion to appease those who think boxing is barbaric and the sight of swollen faces sickening.

As anything elese Olympic sports have their rules too. So its not point is boxing barbaric or not. Every Olimpic sport have to be helthy and medicaly profesional boxing is not helthy, from medical statistic Muay Thai, Kickboxing, MMA, Karae, TKD... are all more helthy than boxing. Boxing moust demage brain. So thats why they need to use safety equipment.

Also you are right that amateur boxing isnt save, almoust same as pro boxing. Thats why there was discusion in Olympic committee should they muve amateur bexing from Olympic sports list. Also same discousion was on Europ chanpionship in amateur boxing these year.

One thing is shure, noone wuldnt muve amateur boxing from Olympic sports list these year.

And about money. Generaly Olimpic sports get much more money from governmant than any other soprts.
