No. It's fine. You arent working your "real" footwork at all, but you are coordinating feet movement with hand movement.
I play "Wii Boxing" on the eliptical about 3 hours per week. The minutes just fly by!

Waist of time no lateral, backwards or side to side movement, unless you sparring someone on a treadmll.

I wouldn't recommend that. Good foot work is essential in all physical activity. It doesn't matter if it is basketball, baseball, football or martial arts. Proper foot work makes for better techniques.

It should help your cardio but don't count on it to help you learn fighting skills.
