Default Bullshit in KF

You all know I love KF, I love every style of KF. What I am fed up of and disgusted by is all the Bullshit surrounding arts like KF, Karate and mainly all the Oriental MAs. Bullshit like secret techniques, legends based on a hair's thickness of fact. When would people realize that, it's with this bullshit that gives the TMA's a bad rep. This topic has been discussed b4 but I think, it needs to be revisited. DONT MISTAKE THIS THREAD FOR BASHING KUNG FU OR TMAS.

I haven't been able to train with my Sifu in quite some time. Mainly because our schedules now conflict and because of my injury. I have been, visiting and observing Kwoons since I haven't been training. Just to immerse myself in KF, because I miss it so. I can't tell you how much bullshit I had to go through again. Secret powers/techniques. Stories about how the instructor beat up a purple dragon, using his chi. Shit along those lines (not exactly tho. I am embellishing a little). Even now on this site. I will not name, names but just some recent bogus, self richeous ranting. This shit pisses me off.
During my visits, I went to this Hung Ga school. I was very impressed. The Sifu, didn't demand respect, you can tell he earned it from his students. He even sat with me and carried a conversation. There was no bullshit about the way he spoke. This actually made my love for KF stronger.

This thread is too all y'all who have been had. (I have been btw). Research, research and research. Don't fall for the jedi, secret society bullshit. And don't bring that bullshit to this forum.

rant over............for now atleast......ahh fell much better.

Dear Black Panta, Amen!!! One thing to prevent this is what my two kung fu brothers and I will do next year when we open our school. I will have a pic of my teachers Jeff Bolt, Ricky Anderson, and Leung Shum and their teachers Dr. Yang Jwing Ming, Abbot Wang Fu Yein, and Master Ng Wei and phone numbers to all three of my teachers besides bringing them in for seminars. If there are any questions about my training after 28 years, the student or prospective students can call them. I find that the Chinese martial arts has the most difficulty in quality control and that is due to mainland v. Hong Kong/Taiwan divisions due to the Cultural revolution etc. One other thing. Madame Wong Ju Rong and Dr. Chen De Wu, her husband live here in Houston. As the daughter and senior student of Wong Ju Ping, the most reknowned kung fu master in the mainland in the 20th century, she is a veritable encyclopedia on who is real and who is not. She also has three daughters who are masters: Grace Wu, Helen Wu, and Xiao Ping Wu. Another person who can verify most people is a great man in Canada, Liang Shouyu and his daughter Helen Liang.

The so called Shaolin monks are the worse down here and in New York. They are pretty wushu "monks" who eat meat, marry, and demonstrate in public? And they have no substance to their forms. My Shaolin master, Ricky, grew up in Hong Kong from age 3-15 and has bona fides.

In any event, quality control is very hard here. But, sooner or later, the legit ones will weed out the others. There is no mystery. Dr. Yang's books propose an electric and scientific examination of Chi and other things due to his background as a doctor of physics and a master's in engineering.

Feel better and know that some out here feel your pain. Especially those who went through considerable pain and hell to achieve what small measure of proficiency we obtained from our teachers that is just given away and handed over in a short time with no skill.

God bless.

IMHO the world is full of lower than average intelligence people, higher than average intelligence people and other people who over estimate their own intelligence no matter what the actual level.

I dont mind people learning BS martial arts because if they ever bother me then hopefully they wont be so much trouble I was thinking about how the general public and thugs are being exposed more and more to MMA (much like other MA fads) and the techniques are rubbing off. So now thugs know arm bars? ...great! It just means I have to up my game as the thugs evolve! If people want to learn techniques from a vid or a poor kwoon then let them. If they dont have the intelligence to work out the problem then thats their lookout.

We could say "Ahh but they discredit our name!" but we dont practice for the sake of 'the school', we practice for our own self improvement. Even people in our own school might not put in what I put in or maybe they put in more than I. Who is being discredited then?

peace

bloodybirds. I am told, (hengest or Setsu could correct) that there are secular Shaolin monks, who are "allowed" to eat meat and marry. I didnt' know there was anything wrong with that. I believe the "monks" you speak of in NY are just performing "monks". And yes they just do wushu. I have met with Sifu Shi Yang Ming and his Kwoon seem to be legit. The USA Shaolin Temple in Manhatton. Then again I was only there to visit and only stayed about 30 mins. I didnt' stay for a class. The only thing that disturbed me a little about the situation is that he called himself an Abbot. But seeing that he is the only real shaolin monk in USA i guess he would be concidered the Abbot of the USA shaolin Temple.

I have heard and seen Sifu Liang. He has a show on tv here in Canada. He and his daughter are very good.

Zeff, I hear what you're saying, and understand. I would rather face a person from a bullshit school, rather than a good school in the streets. But these, cookie cutter 7th degree BLACK FRIGGIN BELTS, in KF are giving the art a bad name. No wonder the MMA artists (the lot of em) laugh at folks that train in the TMAs.

People shouldn't be surprised if they see a Sanda, Hung Ga or even a Shaolin practitioner in MMA or that type of events. They are combat arts. When I see people amazed because ONE person who takes TKD is competing in MMA, i shake my head. I'm like, why the friggin surprise.

Another thing that pisses me off about schools are those, that are soo threatened if you cross train, or train somewhere else. KF is one art that progressed thru evolution. If not we wouldn't have arts like WC, Taiji, Sanda, Hung Ga etc. These are evolutionary steps of KF.
The Hung Ga school I went to, was very open to cross training. I asked him about his ground work, he said that they do practice that there, but he was honest about how it was not as extensive as BJJ or wrestling. He actually encouraged, sincerely. that if you wanted good ground work that you could train there and find a good sub fighting school. (I was surprised because this was an older Vietnamese Sifu, you'd expect him to be "my way only")

When one says KF need to once again evolve, the KF circuit (included myself) was against that. They take it as tho you are bastardizing the art. They forget or are ignorant to the fact that KF was based out of evolving a form of defence and was changed for the times. i.e. Shaolin to Choi Li Fu to WC to JKD/Jun Fan.

I'm trying to figure out if that comment is somehow directed at me... If so, ask Bloodybirds about me. I train with him and he'll tell you that I don't talk shit if I can't back it up...

Other than that, I agree with you about there being a ton of bullshit KF schools out there.

Here's one... I've been trying to help Bloodybirds find a location that's indoors for us to train at. There's a friggin' HUGE ass new gym that opened up not far from us that should actually be called a "resort/spa-for-people-with-more-money-than-brains". Anyway, they sent fliers in the mail and advertised that they would be teaching MA. I called out of curiosity. TKD and "Tai Chi" - I'm using quotes here for a reason... I asked what style of "Tai Chi". The woman said she didn't know anything about it, but that it was taught by the same guy who was teaching the TKD class. DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!! Long story short... Michael goes up there in person to speak to the admin about teaching some KF classes. He meets the TKD/"Tai Chi" instructor. Michael asks the same questions anyone would ask another legit KF or Tai Chi practioner or instructor - "What style are you teaching?", "Who taught you?", "How long have you been teaching?", etc. Anyway, according to Michael, this dipshit couldn't (or wouldn't) give a style for his "Tai Chi" and was vague about his instructor. He didn't even know what "push hands" was - Michael had to show him!!! HELLO!!! YOU HAVE A Mc MARTIAL ARTIST TEACHING IN YOUR GYM!!! He came back with some lame ass comment - "Well, my TKD is better than his!" DUH! Helloooooo dumbass!! Michael agreed and said "Of course it is - I don't study TKD! But I do study and teach Kung Fu and Yang Style Tai Chi!" The admin suggested that they spar to see who was better and dipshit said he didn't have time that he needed to go pick up his wife or something.

She told Michael to call her in the fall after the dipshit's TKD contract was up...

Don't even get me started on these "DAHN Holistic Centers" that we have in our area...

Oh Panta!

I remember when we were having a very long email discussion about your ex-school and just how bad it was. I also recall you visiting a "traditional" japanese school where they made you pay to watch and you told to clean!

I know it happened a year or so ago, but I'm sooooo happy you saw the truth in what you were being shown and how the wallet was the only thing taking a real beating in the end.

budo!

I'm in a better mood now, I noticed that no one commented on this. What do you all think about what I said here.
