I was wondering what other WC practitioners make of these terms, and if they have heard them before.
i have trained in a number of lineages before deciding on my one, and in it i have come across these things which i have never heard of until now.
so...
internal contraction / tei gong : this is a process where we point our sphincter to the top of our head and visualise our spine straightening and being stable.
focus: we try to maintain and develop a kind of constant focus which links, drives and powers all of our movements. it is very hard to pin down and takes years of training to develop. it must also be on during form practice, before after and during every movement.
nim lik: i believe a phrase coined by my sigung, meaning literally 'thought force.' its the result of a highly focused mind and very relaxed muscles, and leads to internal power, where the mind can increase the power of the limbs.
infusion of spirit: this is another factor of focus and nim lik, where we have our 'spirit' present in every part of our body. it is like our muscles, joints and ligaments inflate rather than tense, it links the body together as one unit, and lends power to our limbs.
anybody from other martial arts or other wing chun sifus familiar with these concepts?
info much appreciated!
