| Bradwong - you still have yet to answer whether or not you studied anything at all. Have you ever done martial arts or are you looking to start in martial arts??? If you've never done martial arts, drunken is NOT the way to start. If you have studied something before - Karate, TKD, Kung Fu - then drunken will be easier to learn. HOWEVER, you need to re-read what Bloodybirds wrote about it and make sure that you follow his advise. He's taught me some drunken and it is not for someone who can't learn to relax or take some abuse.

| BradWong, one must also be careful when seeking a drunken teacher as xin jin quan or at least the form in a particular style is usually taught near the end of a curriculum and only after loyalty has been proven. Now, to be sure, drunken as taught by current Wushu curriculum (modern day usage of Wushu to connote post Mao in the mainland) is great and acrobatic, but IS not the same as traditional xin jin quan....so be careful when seeking a teacher. I would study long fist, or a favorable animal style like eagle claw, mantis, snake, monkey, etc for a few years before attempting drunken.
Otherwise, the key in any art is to spend the first 5-7 years learning the basics well as a foundation....then attempting the impossible...LOL!!
I am insistent upon this because I get truly irritated when other arts say kung fu cannot fight!! That usually means the modern art was taught, no real painful training, and the teacher was bad and did not really know the internal training to complement the external manifestations!! Fighting comes through fighting, applying learned methodologies until they are no longer techniques, but natural reactions to negative stimuli!!! Thus, Brad, learn the art well, and then the martial will come!! This applies to any art or derivative, whether Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Filipino, etc. All require years of hard work and pain to get it right..... | | | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
