I am sure that there are Japanese, Korean, Indonesian etc. schools here in the states that also still follow these precepts
Oh there are. My old dojo was one of these. I thrived in this environment. It was great until sensei decided he wanted to try and control things off the mat.

Bamboo, I had a similar issue for awhile with one of my three masters, my Shaolin master currently in Las Vegas from Dallas. He did the same thing and we did not speak for about 2 years. Finally, we had a meeting one late night at a hotel in Dallas and I was very open and blunt with him, figuring I might not walk out of there alive! Instead, he surprised me by saying he had been waiting a long time for one of his seniors to express their opinion without fear and tell him these things...LOL. Of course, he sure did not act that way before!! In any event, I have said enough....both my dear friend and brother Kisu and my young Sidei know how I feel. We have not heard back from my young brother but if I know him he has decided to get deeper into his studies and into his training at John Cheng's. He knows where to find his brothers in Houston if he desires.

Kisu, if you get a chance, give my brother Joel in Atlanta a call. He would love to hear from you!! I will email you this weekend.

Bamboo, glad to hear there are schools like that on your side of the fence too!!

It's not that he was saying you should get a pink belt.......he's saying that Buicken would have a blast with your statement. Think about it "meeting one late night at a hotel in Dallas and I was very open".

Default A few lessons I have learned in a park in west hollywood.

This thread has clearly been overspoken, but as I was one of the cats present on the evening in question, I thought I would toss in my two cents...

I'm one of the students Wushu interacted with, I think. I remember the day quite well, but we get a lot of people sniffin' at us, so my observations are me own.

I too came to lala-land from far away, with hopes of entertainin' myself. I spent 2 1/2 years checking out schools in the area. All in all, I checked out about 25 schools in the LA area. I didn't know "what" I was looking fer in a martial arts school, but I had a knack of seein' what I wasn't looking for. (I won't bore anyone with specific details...with all the years of martial arts training in this forum, I am sure you have all seen more kung-foolery than I could imagine).

Suffice it to say, I am glad I was aware enough when I walked into the hfist (that's harmonious to those not in the know to see that I had found something really special.

I empathized with Wushu when he showed up, because who hasn't acted like a know-it-all prick in their lives? Watching him be in this amazing park, with all this amazing shit going down around him, and being blind to it, made me wonder how many times that had happened to me that day?

Anyways, Wushu, it sounds like you found yourself a good school with proper kung-fu. Glad to hear it and hope the best for you. In fact, thanks a lot for posting about our school on this forum, cause if you hadn't, I woulda never known you guys were here.

And I say Batman with Scarlett Jo and that hot chick from myspace as his sidekicks!
