| Ben, I have know John since he was 12 and I was 22. His master, Raymond Fogg, has a video of us from 1981 (wow) where Sifu Fogg is opening his school in Marshall, Tx. and both John and I demonstrated there. Afterwards, John and I have our arms on each other's shoulders and he has his left leg and I have my right leg extended straight up and smiling. Years later, he came and trained with us for a time in Arlington with Ricky's school and went through what we went through. Ask him about the time he ran through the woods with us carrying a log and literally fell face first down into a ravine going 100 miles an hour! One of the funniest things we ever saw. John is a great guy, a great martial artist, and is about 38 years old right now and been doing this since he was about 9 or 10. He is also the tournament doc for alot of stuff on the West Coast.
His mantis is impeccable and he is also the kung fu brother of Jeff Hughes in Austin, who I might suggest Staz train under when he goes to UT next year. In any event, you cannot get much better!! As far as Kisu, he is probably involved doing stunts, coordinating stunts, or supporting one of his students in the movies right now. I will email him again on your behalf.
Sorry to the rest of you but since my sidei responded publicly to my inquiry I thought it appropriate to do so as well. | | | | Senior Member Purple Belt Join Date: Jan 1970 Posts: 797

| One other thing, John has a great set up....his main school, one of three in the LA area, is right next to his orthopaedic medical practice....so, he can break them and then fix them in one stop shopping.
Cool!!! Ben, John runs a Ba Bo mantis set that is absolutely incredible...also, learn his saber and spear techniques, as they are some of the best in the world.....learn from him directly and mention both my name and Jeff's name to him!! | | | | Senior Member Black Belt 3rd Dan Join Date: Jan 1970 Posts: 1,635

| Yes it is my young brother NB!!! But our younger brother Wushu needs to know that his adventure to California can lead him to unwarranted temptations!! Better that he know a little history about the organization or master he now trains under....if he really wants to learn an awesome spear and darn dao, John "thunder legs" Cheng is the one...and being an orthopaedic MD, he can always screw Wushu up and then put him back together again!!! One stop shopping!!!
Wushu, still try to see Kisu at Harmonious Fist Northern Shaolin when he returns from filming in China...a great contact and my brother Master Joel Rodriguez and my grandmaster in Shaolin Ricky Anderson know Kisu as well...there NB, enough shameless plugs!!!!
Once a kung fu brother, always a kung fu brother, no matter where you are located, my young Padawon in California!! | | | | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 1970 Posts: 205

I hope he's not related to Shaquesha "thunder thighs" Jackson! Sorry...I made that name up. I really can't think of a single person with this nickname lol. You have to admit it sounds a bit like something you'd expect to see on a poster in Las Vegas (no offense to John Cheng).

| Stas, John's legs are so muscular from his mantis and kung fu training that his knees are barely perceptible due to the thigh muscles he has from stance training. Besides being a great doc in orthopaedic, he has trained since he was 9 or 10 (he is 38 now) and his kung fu is wonderful. | | | | Senior Member Black Belt 2nd Dan Join Date: Jan 1970 Posts: 1,454
