NB, considering the life event about to happen, my brother, calm down. To all: as we discuss the relative merits back and forth on this site, has anyone noticed that the person who began this topic and to whom most of this is directed has not made an appearance since the apology?! Nor has he responded in other fashion. I would be very interested in my young sidei's feelings at this point about this issue. I will say, in his defence, that wearing the Yang Jwing Ming shirt was probably, in his mind a way of recognizing his master in Houston, Dr. Yang's senior student and one of my teachers, and to subconsciously state he was also a martial artist. Unfortunately, like I have said, I do not believe he has been totally schooled in the true traditions, though like I said I did brief him in some before he left.

One other comment: anyone who has trained under bona fide masters, especially Chinese, but also others, can attest that sometimes they purposely speak in riddles or other methods to make the ones they are trying to teach lessons use their mind to think in alternative fashion. In this way, different levels of a technique or philosophy are discovered. For instance, one of my masters once made me learn two of my forms from end to beginning as well as reverse and then after I almost blew my brain doing it for a month, he revealed that the counter to any technique from the form was its reverse! Wow, two for one and escapes as well!! But, boy was that frustrating!! My point, ladies and gentlemen of the court, is to sometimes read between the lines in what is written or said from a martial arts adept.....there is usually more than one meaning. If my masters show me something, and 5 other people as well, in reality they might interpret and use it entirely different than me, since not all are short and handsome like me.... :P

Holy drama batman.

Maybe everyone should just sit back and reflect a little. Has anyone actually suffered from this silly little thread? Other than self induced stress?

The only thing I've actually seen happen is one man's school is on the recieving end of ALOT of promotion.

WUSHU- I have gained some respect for you in this case (not that internet respect means anything ), you stated your opinion and stood by your words. To me, thats one mark of a strong man.

You know what I've also noticed? Lophopkuen, according to Wushu's original post, wasn't even there. So he's hearing everything 2nd hand as well. I apologize if I'm mistaken.

That was one of the points I was trying to make.

I'm sorry for what I've done, if I have annoyed away this member. It truely was not my intent. Nor was it my intent to be a "sharp tongued littel weasel" or to bait a fight. I know the vast majority of you on this page could put me into a coma.

Was what I said so wrong? If so, I would like to know, so I don't make a future mistake.

Kisu, my brother, there are other forums and topics on here that are actually pretty cool and worthwhile. And most people on here have some really great and in depth things to say. Unfortunately, I think Chinese martial arts in general extrapolates the importance of tradition, lineage, etc. more than most on a consistent basis. I mean no insult to any other style, I just find that sometimes, from a commercial perspective, our art/style tends to find a great conflict in this country between traditional values of kung fu and commercialism. We have spoke about this before. My brother Kisu, when it comes to martial arts, is like my Shaolin master Ricky Anderson.....you can insult anything else, make fun of anything else, but do not insult the art or his master (s). I have had a broad spectrum of this with my three teachers. From Sigung Shum and Sigung Anderson, who are very traditional, to Sifu Bolt, who is not. And yet, Dr. Yang, Sifu Bolt's teacher, is also very traditional.

Sooo.....sometimes very hard to understand one's reaction to these things but I hope in some way I have explained. Some of you may find it quaint or ludicrous in the days of MMA, UFC, etc., but people and schools like this still exist. I am sure that there are Japanese, Korean, Indonesian etc. schools here in the states that also still follow these precepts. Kisu started 41 years ago, my three masters between 33 and 61 years ago, and myself almost 30 years ago. Times were different then as far as martial arts tradition. If you do not believe me, watch old films of Bruce Lee at the Long Beach Internationals in 1964, or the old schoolers like Norris, Wallace, Stone, Steen, Lewis, Urquidez, etc who were fighting back then. Tournaments then were no pads, no point contact, and traditional in tone.

Enough said!!! I sound like an old fogey now, I know!!! But, my brother, go look at other topics on this site. I would say 90% of the folks on this site are dedicated, serious, and love the art as much as we do!! And the others, sooner or later they get ignored or banned!!

You see now Tapout...if you were Andrea Rincon you wouldnt be getting yourself in these troubles now would you?! HAW HAW HAW!!!

lokhopkuen,

I think Tapout was being sincere, but I know its hard to read the tone of posts especially when we are all from different cultures. I noticed Wushu had a few run ins over the time he spent on here but none more than anyone else really (no where near) and he definitely didnt come across as a malicious or bad person at all, just a young, boisterous one. Everyone was young once - punish them with traing.

peace

To all a good night, time to leave work and actually go train for a few hours. May the force be with everyone and keep everyone safe. Thanks to all for a vigorous discussion today.

Not that my opinion really matters on this, but I think the apology was a little weak as well. A sincere apology shouldn't have any conditions on it. WP basically said, "I'm sorry, BUT I don't think I did anything wrong." My 2 cents worth.
