Default Look what I found

I ran into this site while doing a search and it's seems to be a pretty good site for basic info on the different Kung Fu styles.

http://www.chinesekungfu.4t.com/styles.html

I urge Kung Fu artists and non Kung Fu artists to read the whole site. It is very insightful. I haven't read all of the styles but the Philosophy and Lessons section is very interesting.

As a long time practitioner of Lau Gar I can say that the article on that site about Lau Gar is a little misleading. The pictures of Master Jeremy Yau shouldn't really be there. The style that he teaches is an amalgamation of Hakka style (Master Yau is Hakka) & Southern Praying Mantis style kung fu. He was taught these by his grandfathers. His maternal grandfather was called Lau & that is who he named his system after. This system is the one taught in Britain - although Hung Gar style includes a set of movements from authentic Lau Gar as part of its syllabus.

I should add that I started out as one of Master Yau's students & my submission of the above information is not meant to denigrate either Master Yau or the style he teaches.

Hi graham,
As a practitioner of UK Lau Gar myself, could you give me anymore info about its origins? I've heard the SPM thing before, but never stated so clearly as here.
Jeremy Yau has quite clearly stated in interview that his style is THE Lau Gar, so it's very interesting to hear what you say.

If you are refering to "Lau Gar Kuen" or "Lau Gar Gwan" in Hung Gar, you are mistaken that they are from Lau Gar.
The Lau Gar in Hung Gar is not related to the Lau Gar system. According to the Hung Gar people, it's a form from Mok Gar that was introduced by a student of Lam Sai Wing who happened to be named Lau (and the Lau Ga staff form was from a southern mantis guy also named Lau, according to wikipedia)
