If its an extendable cosh, yes most UK lads who do the rounds would and do. The amount of people who carry these in England takes the piss.

In my case, its ok to go for a 16" stick here. As I said, people don't usually confront you for carrying ticks like that here in our country...anyway, yes, I'll go for that.
Folding umbrella-size sticks...like those that range from 12-16 inches.

Anyway...I just thought now that its a good idea to carry a stick that is proportional to one's size, I mean, I'll go for arnis canes or the shorter ones because I think they match my size. I'm 5ft 7in and weigh about only 128 lbs. So I think they're my size...Any thoughts? thanks!

cheers comrades!

Something about 5-8 inches(depending on the width of your hand) is fine, but I would say it depends on your style of fighting. Personally, I find a stick gets in the way when I fight. I prefere to have my hands empty. A small stick is good for filling the hand so you don't break your knuckles when you strike, and for deflecting a weapon in a pinch.
A word of caution though, when you get used to carrying a weapon all the time, you develop a dependency upon that weapon, and it will be your first thought in a fight. You'll be lost without it. Not a good position to be in.

I agree with bushidoka, about that "dependency" thing.
In my case, its really ok for me to carry sticks like that because I'm studying Kombatan, a stick-oriented art and it would really complement my empty-hand skills. That stick I can use to disarm/lock an opponent or by using it a weapon itself for striking and the likes...
