BJ Penn - Book of Knowledge review The $35 price tag put me off on this for a week, but I finally broke down and bought it. All I can say is wow.
This is by far the most complete book I have ever seen on MMA. No subject is left untouched. It even has a section on fighting against the cage. Though the book is seperated into standup and ground for ease of finding things, it's not like most other MMA books. The standup section covers setting up takedowns with the striking, and the ground section covers how to use striking to set up the submissions. It's the first book I've seen that truly covers the MMA game as opposed to just slapping together a section on kickboxing, wrestling, and jiujitsu. Penn covers only techniques he feels can work for him. There are no kicks shown in the book, as he says they don't fit in well with the way he fights, but he acknowledges thier effectiveness.
The illustrations and descripitions are clear and detailed. The book is well organized, with a huge number of techniques. After having actually looked at it, I would recommend this book even if it had a $50 price tag. It's a must have for everyone. |
