Default UFC 76, Tavares vs Griffin

I wasnt going to mention this but after watching the fight again I really cannot see how Griffin won the fight. He did a lot of good work and a draw would have been fair IMO but how did he win outright?

Tavares had a ridiculously huge amount of submission attempts and how many times did he get his back?..lets not forget the huge knee! The judge who gave 30-27 needs a kicking!

Tavares was the one looking to finish constantly, which was what allowed Griffin chances to escape - all Griffin did was control when he got position. I thought you got points for actively seeking submissions over the guy escaping them???

Seems to me Griffin and his camp has sway with the organisation or nowadays you catch a judges eye by stalling groundwork rather than trying to show genius abilities in it.

The fight was still awesome though! Best technical fight Ive seen in ages.

Judging in fight sports is incredibly crooked, no matter what. The whole affair is run by studio execs who determine which fighters they want to promote more and they mismatch cards and occasionally fix bouts to make sure their designated favourites get ahead. I watched a K-1 promotion held locally last month. Out of seven fights that night, maybe three were anything approaching clean. Poorly-matched cards and outright tanking were the order of the night, and this was a world-class event.

The first two matches saw the blue corner fighters taking outright dives for the red corner fighters. Some tell-tales included keeping the hands down by the waist from the beginning to the end of the fight and repeatedly bobbing the head forward to eat punches to the chin. The first blue fighter was also just plain bad - her opponent was nothing special, either, but at least a little better than she was - but the second one was actually good enough to be noticeably better than his opponent - he was repeatedly rocking his opponent with solid kicks and sweeps until he got knocked out by the inevitable right cross in the first minute of round two, all because he'd had his hands down his groin all the time. I fancy he was taking a shot at the corrupt organisers who'd paid him to take a dive by showing the crowd what he was made of while he had the chance.

I agree with the poster that says these fights are fixed and setup. I have just seen too many UFC fights go the wrong way.

I believe that another problem is that the judges, a lot of time, know a lot about boxing and very little about grappling. It's annoying to say the least.

No, seriously, more free vids are a good thing, since I'm poor and a cheapskate to boot.

Neverman: Wouldn't dedicated MMA judges be picked to judge MMA fights? The sport's been around long enough for it to have its own specially-trained judges, wouldn't you reckon? Mind you, I've been out of the loop for a while, so I wouldn't know. Just speculating

Sorry, all the streaming vids seem to be down. You'll need to use a tracker but it really is worth watching.
