Now lets throw another pepper into the pot. How about going up against....hmmm let see a good one. Remeber considering your strengths, size, current weight and skill. How would you deal with Manvel Gamburyan?

| Good pick, he's really tough from what I remember. I never do well against a guy built like him but I would have to initially take the fight to him straight away with straight rights and lefts hopefully scoring with my longer reach. Then as soon as he is frustrated I would allow him to come forward, throwing the straights as I back up with lateral movement. I would go forward again with the same strikes and again back up and shoot for the takedown as soon as he rushes forward. Give it my all to get top position and then GnP. I definitely would avoid being pressed against the cage at all costs!

| I knew he'd be a tough one.
I have an extremely
diffuclt time even thinking
about how to fight him.
About the only thing I can
think of doing is using
kicks such as teeps,
side kicks and killing him
with jabs. I would really
try to keep it standing,
and maybe throw some high
roundhouses. Really look
for the one hit KO. If it
goes to the ground and
it will, like zeff i'd try
to make sure i'm on top,
but most likely, he'll end
up in my guard. From there
, I'd work sweeps while
desperately defending the
GNP. OR, I'd maintain a high
guard to work subs, really
use my length and height
advantage. To throw him
off a bit, hit him with
slashing elbows from the
bottom. If I do end up
sweeping him work serious on
maintaing position, throwing
minimum strikes, only strikes
i'd throw are sure hits. From
the top, I'd play my game
of leg locks. Wich is also
his game.
Realistically I dont see me
winning a fight against him.

| Even after making weight, I'd probably still be at least one weight class above Manny, so I doubt I'd ever get to meet him. Still, assuming I were lighter or an open-category fight, I'd do pretty much what you guys would and aim to keep the fight standing with good ring generalship and defensive grappling. Training-wise, I'd focus on outfighting and counterstriking and probably aim to find a good wrestling coach during the prep to work on negating his judo skills and keeping the pressure on. Him being smaller than me really doesn't mean anything - all the most dangerous grapplers I've ever rolled with were smaller and lighter than me.
During the fight itself, I'd have a definite reach advantage on him, so I'd aim to keep him at a distance with headshots and punish the body every time he gets too close, sprawling against takedown attacks and aiming to spin to catch the back and rain down punches from a loose mount, jumping clear of any sweep or counter attempts as they come. I doubt I'd actively attempt any takedowns - he'd be the better grappler by far, so I'd rather wait on his takedowns and Murphy his game to hell to tire him out.
Basically, punish with reach and striking power at range, and with bodyweight and leverage in the grapples, and hope my conditioning lasts long enough to whittle his down with damage and workrate.
Now my brain has blown its sticky load, I shall yield the floor to the next gent

| LOL! I think we would all spend our time trying to keep away from any fighter we can think off!

| Once everyone's done with Manny, let's go for someone else. I pick...Matt Hughes.
My strategy would be to roll over and play dead, since we both play more or less the same game and he's better at it than I am | | | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
