Default Protein sources

I used to be big into bodybuilding and, after a long, long absence from the gym, over the last few weeks I've found time to go along on a regular basis to throw some weights around. I'm following a Stuart McRobert-style program and I'm really pleased with the strength gains I'm making (I've added over 30lbs. to my leg press in just a few weeks). However, I'm just not seeing the size gains I want.

Now call me vain, but I want size gains! I used to be a big scary fuck, and I want to be a big scary fuck again! I think I know the problem; I'm just not taking in enough protein. I'm currently at 210lbs. so, to build mass, I need to take in a fair amount of protein. The problem is that recently (and I don't know if this is due to work stress or somesuch, cos I've never had this before) I seem to have developed an aversion to dairy products. On top of that, I also have an allergy to soy. These combined makes buying almost any kind of protein supplement pointless (at least as far as I know). Therefore, I'm looking for a quick, easy protein source that I can consume on a regular basis to help me get the protein I need. The only thing I can think of is tuna but, assuming one has no allergy toward it, do you think there's any possible problems that could arise from consuming 2-3 cans of tuna a day between meals? Alternatively, can anybody come up with another protein source that would fit the bill?

Any help is much appreciated.

Hey man!

I know a guy here in South Africa who sells supplements. This guy also told me stuff about the soy. His product consists of 100% whey proteins with no isolates or what ever they call it. He also said that the body can only take in 25grams of protein per day(dont know if its true, but they did lab studies and stuff). He also claims that it is a natural product and anyone can use it.

I saw a kid who sprained his ankle recover in 3 weeks and break his own personal best at long jump.

He also have a product that boost you testosterone, levels like steroids without it being illegal or having side effects. He calls it Grunt.

If your interrested I can find out his email adress and you can communicate with him.

His products will be very cheap for you. It cost here R 200 which will be about $35.

Dont know if this will help

2-3 cans of tuna won't be bad for you. Just don't mix it with mayo. Keep it dry with some salt and pepper. Also, eggwhites. Just hardboil a half dozen eggs and just eat the egg whites.

I believe that Cobin is correct regarding the Whey protein. The easiest thing for you to do is go to a supplement store and tell them about your soy allergy. I'm positive that they have products that don't contain soy and should agree with you.

Also, L-Glutamine helps break down and process protein. Take one pill a day and that should help with any of the protein intake that you have during the day.

Don't worry, I never add mayo to anything. As far as I'm concerned you might as well crap in a jar and sell that for all the nutritional value you get from the stuff.

Yeah, I think he's right about whey as well. I remember reading somewhere that even people with severe lactose intolerance can still take whey. The problem is though, what to mix it with. I can't use milk and I can't use soy milk.

And going to a supplement store is a great idea in any other country but in Japan, forget it. It's still a third world country when it comes to exercise and what have you. Gym and sports store staff know nothing about that kind of thing and the products are really second rate. I shopped everywhere for a protein powder a while back. The best I could find contained a massive 12g of protein... I have to order all my stuff in from the US.

L-Glutamine, eh? Yeah I used that a few years ago and I remember getting some really good results. I hadn't thought of that as a possible solution here. Thanks for that mate. Much appreciated.

I use whey protein powder and i just drink that stuff with water. Not the best tasting stuff, but it always has worked for me. I don't know how good it is if you're trying to build size though. Isn't it a dietary supplement? More for lean muscles I thought?

I say, if you want to look like a bad mofo, take the Tank Abbott diet. Meat, Cheese, and Beer.

Just a thought!

Yeah, maybe I should just try mixing it with water. Like you say though, the taste can't be all that enticing.

As far as I know, whey protein is fine for building lean mass. It's the most commonly used powder among bodybuilders I believe. I used weight gain powders when I was younger (young? ), when I was bodybuilding more seriously, and just ended up a tubby bitch. They're full of sugar; I've stuck with whey ever since.

Well, my physique is going the way of Tank already. That's kind of the problem. I'm wanting more Triple H than Tank Abbott.

They do make non-dairy based protein powder. Mercury in tuna, remember. Then you have taurine. Chicken in a can. Theres lots of stuff.

I heard something of the sort too. It makes sense really.

All this bodybuilding stuff sounds rather delicate! Getting the balance of things right and such.

Thats 25g of protein every 2hrs. If that was a day, humans would have zero muscle mass.
