New Question: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Amateur Mixed Martial Arts?

On average, the amateur mma fighter who practices bjj for his grappling skills, what belt level, or how many years of bjj experience does he have before fighting as a amateur?

Answer by Matt from: MartialFighter.com

Typically amatuer fighters have about 1-2 years of MMA training before they enter the cage. If they are training pure MMA, they really don't train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, they are training submission grappling for MMA. They do not wear the gi and focus on MMA grappling. That being said, most of these fighters have about a solid blue belt level or an advanced white belt level of grappling knowledge. But their skills are enhanced for MMA. Personally, I think a solid blue belt level and above will provide you the necessary grappling skills to fight in an amateur MMA fight
