Bio
Who am I?
My name is Matt Bryers, I run this thing along with a few other sites, most notably www.fightauthority.com. I’m 32, gotta hot wife, 2 dogs, the house, the job… all that stuff. I can’t really complain. I’m also a dedicated martial artist, jiu-jitsu instructor, recent pro-MMA fighter, weight lifter, and complete internet geek. It’s a GREAT combination!
Basically I started this site because I was getting a little frustrated reading about just MMA. I wanted to make a site that’s just about what I consider real martial arts training. Stuff that’s inspiration, technical, and valuable.
Martial Arts Background:
I am a 2nd degree black belt in Kobukai Ju-Jitsu (www.kobukaijujitsu.com) and teach ju-jitsu at a local martial arts school (www.jiujitsuct.com). I am NOT a BJJ black belt. I am Purple Belt and an instructor in BJJ under American Top Team / BWBJJ Black Belt: Luigi Mondelli (5x Pan Am Champion, 2x World BJJ Champion) Kobukai Ju-jitsu style is based on Japanese Ju-Jitsu, but we train and fight like a hardcore grappling school. We focus a little bit more on the takedowns and throws then typical BJJ schools. We compete in grappling tournaments, MMA, etc and do very well. I was also a really shitty high school wrestler. But the lessons learned there have carried over greatly.
I have training steadily for about 12 years, and off and on for about 15. If I was do describe myself as a fighter, I would consider myself very good in the clinch and takedowns. Good on top positions, and improving my guard. I have enough striking background to defend and get into my ranges, but I am not a striker.
Career:
I actually love my job. I work on the internet for a living, doing internet marketing and web development. Very challenging and enjoyable career. I could say more, but I doubt you care.
Hobbies:
Obviously martial arts but I don’t really consider that a hobby, more along the lines of “that’s who I am”. Weight lifting or strength training is another one, but again that’s something that defines me. I am obsessed with strength. My dogs are also a big part of my life. I really enjoy dog training. I do a bunch of training classes with them and my wife. It’s a good time and I believe all dogs should be trained. Good for them, good for the owner. Besides that, running websites.
So, that’s about it. Anything else, just ask me!
